For our fourth & fifth sessions in a marathon week of Delhi-based programming, we headed west towards Najafgarh for an afternoon collaboration with the beneficiaries of Maika “Sweet Home” Anathalaya.
Maika – the brainchild of prominent Delhi businessman, Avinash Jain, operates as a shelter for girls & women in need, often extending support to their dependents as well. With 60 beneficiaries currently living on-campus and Mr. Jain at the helm, @maika_sweethome is working daily to provide these girls with the possibility of a better future. A future where they can pursue passions. A future where they can engage in sport. A future where they can attend school and college, furthering their knowledge without the burden of tuition costs. A future where they can learn about computers or take English classes, all at a cost-free basis. A future where they can attend vocational trainings in the fields of cooking, stitching, cleaning, housekeeping, and more.
It’s no surprise that this place has affectionately adopted the “Sweet Home” moniker. Because for 60 girls now, and hundreds more before, that’s exactly what it is. A place built with love, and a place sustained by it. A place where girls can be athletes, students, dreamers, and doers. A home as sweet as any.
