That’s what American suffragist Susan B Anthony famously said. For schoolgirls in India, it rings true.
Nibha Kumari lives in Bihar, India’s poorest state, and uses a government-provided bicycle to travel two hours daily from home to school and back.
With mobility being challenging for girls and public transport unreliable, Nibha says cycling “changed [her] life”.
Bhuvaneshwari Kumari, a health worker in Begusarai, says girls have “gained a lot of confidence” since cycling, and “more and more of them are going to school now”.
