NIT Silchar students have ended their five-day hunger strike after the institute’s Director, Professor Dilip Kumar Baidya, committed to removing the current Dean of Academics, Professor BK Roy, within the next two days. The strike, initiated on September 17, demanded Professor Roy’s resignation following the alleged suicide of a third-year student on September 15.
Professor Baidya expressed regret for the delayed response and assured the removal of Professor Roy. However, students insisted on a written assurance before calling off the strike. On Friday, the Director provided the written guarantee, prompting students to end their hunger strike. During the protest, at least eight students required hospitalization.
