What good is our knowledge if not to be used for the greater purpose?
And what could be our greater purpose than that of preserving and advancing what God has given us control over?
Since the beginning of creation, God bestowed humankind – starting from Adam and Eve – the freedom to explore, cultivate and consume everything that exist on earth according to their perceived judgment.
And ever since then, we have gladly inherited that privilege from our ancestors. Revolutionary innovations and technological developments have aided our efforts in exploiting our planet to the best that we can do.
But there lurks a bug that is growing rapidly into a monster.
Our technological advances come with a cost. Household and industrial waste, airborne emissions and the loss of our oxygen replenishing and water preserving trees have given us a time limit on our chance to conserve the earth as our livable home: the climate change clock.
The time window for mitigating the damages we have caused that lead to global warming is now less than the number of our fingers. There is a lot of work to be done to reverse our destructive habits into reconstructive actions. The question is: are we committed enough?
As Uncle Ben said in the Spiderman movie, “With great power comes great responsibility”, we have the force and the knowledge in our hands to turn the tides. What we need to do is join our hands together and commit to the greater purpose before our time runs out.
Let’s think about what we can leave for our children and the subsequent generations to live in. Create a legacy that promotes their wellbeing rather than suffering.
After all, they are our most precious gift to treasure and care for…?
